Literary Analysis Page Overview
This page is meant to feature your selected story.
There are two tasks for this section of the project: Literary Analysis Essay and Web Page Additions. Honors students must complete ALL tasks; Academic students need only to complete the second. Read below for detailed directons.
1. Literary Analysis Essay – This essay must be done on Google.docs and it must be collaborative. A detailed assessment form will explain how the collabarative effort will be assessed. One person will write a rough draft; when this is finished, the rest of the group will edit and proofread. The person who goes to the Literary Analysis workshop will become the google.docs expert. They will create a google.docs account, invite group members as editors, and teach the group members how to begin drafting the essays. In the end, every group member will contribute to the draft. Remember, it is a group grade!
There are many ways to analyze a short story. Your group will determine the focus of this essay in the initial Literature Circle. Here are a couple of ideas:
a. Compare and contrast it with another story.
b. Examine any cause and effect relationships within the story.
c. Look at the literary devices used in the story and examine their effect.
d. Look at an author’s word choice and examine its effect.
e. Find the theme and discuss how the author developed the theme.
f. Look for archetypes within the story and examine their role.
g. Discuss the cultural or historical significance of this piece of literature.
h. And more! Your creativity and literary skills are your limit.

2. Web Page Additions - When the draft is complete, it will be added to the Literary Analysis web page as an external link. On this page, the group must also include supplementary information on the story. This page must include the following:
- About the Author - Write an overview of the author's work and life.
- Cultural Connections - Discuss how the short story reflects the culture in which it came (setting, dialogue, philosophy, characters, etc...).
- Story Summary - Provide a brief plot overview of the story.
- Interesting Tidbit - Either about the author or the story. Do some research; find something interesting; write about it.
Each section above should be roughly 100 words (at least one well developed paragraph) and it should include accompanying photos when necessary. The images and design of this page should attempt to create a connection to the short story. In other words, the images and layout should reflect either the content, the culture, the mood, or some other element of the story.
Be sure to check the Web Site Rubric on the Project overview Page to see how you will be graded on this page.
